The End

Below the End Game on table two

As the battle approached the late afternoon (and the 32 periods allocateed). The French were gearing up for an assault on the 3rd Prussian line of defence. The rest of Soult's Corp was now marching onto the table but still had an hour or so before it could get into contact and on the other table Murat's Cavalry was snaking its way to the front along the available roads. On the Prussian side Tauentzien was back in action again (although clearly wishing he had got a new pair of glasses!). It had been a bloody slog by the French to get this far and both sides had taken heavy losses. It was also clear that although they had pushed the Prussians back the French had not broken them and with Ruchel arriving to bolster an existing defensive line by the end of the day it would be a stalemate. The Umpires agreed that the intelligent defence by Hohenloe had guaranteed the survival of his Army to fight another day; consequently this constituted a marginal victory for the Prussian/Saxon Forces.

Where was Davout when Napoleon needed him? Oh he was winning a battle somewhere else wasn't he!
