Holtzendorf's Delay

Back

St Hilaire's Division of Soult's IV Corps advances on to the board; standing before them is the Cavalry and Horse Artillery of Holtsendorf's detachment. He successfully delays the advance by firing and falling back. His cavalry is eventually outmatched and must retire, not helped by having to detach two Regiments to slow Lannes down (See Tauentzien's Retreat.).

Holtsendorf's infantry and artillery try and hold on in and around the village of Lehesten. He now has only 3 Battalion of Grenadiers and two gun batteries to hold off a French Division.
