The French Surprise

Napoleon surprised the Russians by ordering Murat to take the French Reserve Cavalry on a sweeping flanking move that came in behind the Russian left flank. It was met by the small cavalry force of Baggovut, who was holding the extreme left of the Russian line.

Unfortunately Baggovut's Cavalry was heavily outnumbered and not a match for the French who swept aside Cossacks and Dragoons alike.

It didn't go all the French way, these Hussars took a bit of a pasting from the russian Horse Bty

With the Russian Cavalry swept out of the way the rest of the Reserve Cavalry advanced on unopposed

A spectacular view of the French Reserve Cavalry advancing behind the Russian left flank. Baggovut's infantry in the village in the centre of the table is already in trouble and things will get worse when Davout arrives on table from the left to attack him in the village.
